An open platform for interdisciplinary health communication

The Keppel Health Review (KHR) is an independent platform for original perspectives on health and healthcare.

We publish thought-provoking, digestible journalism that covers health from all angles and disciplines. Cultural, political, and artistic articles are published alongside columns on clinical research, epidemiology, and digital technologies.

Our journalism is online and free to read. We release full issues quarterly, ensuring each edition is carefully curated to include perspectives that will stimulate interdisciplinary conversations from diverse voices on current issues and solutions.

The KHR is not just a magazine, but a platform for convergence, discussion, and activism: an invaluable opportunity for both our writers and readers to move outside their disciplinary silos, sharing and expanding their understandings of health in the process.

Starting as a small student-led project in 2021, the KHR is a grassroots, ground-up publication established as a direct response to inequities in public and global health voiced and recognised during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since launch in May 2021 we have become a trusted platform for over 120 contributors from 18 countries to publish their work, attracted a growing international audience of 40,000 readers from over 72 countries, while establishing a clear editorial voice that represents our inclusive and accessible publishing process, and helped train an international community of editors and writers through skill sharing, collaborative learning, and mentorship opportunities.

The KHR is run by an international and multidisciplinary team for a global, young, and socially curious audience.

  • We are academics, healthcare professionals, artists, and students curious about health at the intersections of our diverse worlds, and we accept submissions from anyone with a thoughtful and critical voice on topics related to health.

  • Our core editorial team remains based in London, UK, but we have now employed editorial correspondents in over 12 countries, and have a wide network of creative contributors and writers.

  • Compared to other health media outlets, our team is distinct because we are diverse: we are run primarily by people of colour, women, queer, and members that identify as disabled.

Addressing health inequities begins with equitable health communication—where credible information is accessible to all, and everyone is involved and valued in the discussion.

The KHR is the only magazine that places health equity at the centre of its publication design as well as its content.

Through our editorial structure, community-based organisation, and global connectivity, we foster space for representative and intersectional health communication.

By providing a platform for these discussions, the KHR is a driving force in creating a better, more equitable, and healthier society. Our journalism challenges and provokes the ways people think about and work towards health in our global and communal societies, initiating new, sustainable, and inclusive solutions to pressing issues in public and global health.

Our Aims

The KHR aims to provide accessible health journalism to all through expansion and growth by meeting the following three aims:

  1. Strengthen our editorial processes to ensure we are a confident, trusted voice for underrepresented voices

  2. Create a multimedia platform for discussion and debate

  3. Grow our readership to reach a large and diverse global audience

After three incredible years working together as the KHR, we have decided to pause our publication. While our vision remains unchanged, we are not currently producing new content. We are happy to work with existing projects, start-ups, or journalists to share the resources, tools, and knowledge that we have cultivated in creating our platform. For more information click here.
